Claude Dityvon (b. 1937 La Rochelle, France; d. 2008, Paris) was witness to the events of May 1968 in Paris, when Sorbonne students vented their anger at educational policies in a mass demonstration that soon escalated into a widespread citizen's strike against the French regime of the hour. With no particular aim or allegiance to any cause, Dityvon wandered the streets at the peak of the worldwide anti-Vietnam War student movement, simply photographing as he went. His monochrome images of armed students sparked by youth and outrage attest to the light and shadows of that dark night of revolution.
