K-NARF, a Tokyo-based French artist, started in 2016 the HATARAKIMONO PROJECT made of 102 Tape-o-graphic portraits of Japanese workers. This project creates an “Extra-Ordinary Visual Archive” for the future and preserves a barely highlighted mainstay of the Japanese culture: the strong respect for any kind of work and the people who are doing it. Together with the project exhibition, a street installation will display 80 full-size portraits of workers from the actual Kyoto Central Market area.
