Looking at today's digital sphere, with its influx of visual information both in quality and quantity we need to consider how it will impact future generations. We must remain skeptical to media and keep questioning the images, the context, to ensure the most un-bias coverage. This masterclass provides various points of view, and demonstrates the tools to effectively anaylze images comprehensively. Covering the history of photography from the 19th century with the implementation of American ‘revisionism’ in the interwar period of Julien Levy to Alfred Stieglitz, ‘vintage’ with André Jammes, Helmut Gernsheim and Beaumont-Newhall and ‘revisionist’ historical elaboration through examples like Margaret Cameron and the Italian Paparazzi.

"Coming from history and ethnology I wasn't ready as a museum curator for the political climate in 1970s when sectarian voices of right and left easily controlled the narratives and contexts of the political discourses. I decided I'd better stick with the principals of my academic backgrounds", says Cheval.
